A representative office of a foreign legal entity can only be opened in Russia with permission from the accreditation bodies. Accreditation is offered for one, two, or three years and when necessary can be extended. The representative office receives permission to open. In addition to accreditation, a representative office of a foreign company must be entered into the open state register of foreign representative offices accredited in the Russian Federation.
Evidence of entry in the register serves as proof of the representative office’s official status at the federal level, and is required in order to open bank accounts, when filing tax returns, when applying for Russian visas and when undergoing customs inspections.
